In celebration of the anniversary, fans can expect exclusive consumer products and collectibles, along with in-theater events and much more in the coming months. Marvel Studios’ unprecedented success over the last ten years is reflected in its cumulative box-office receipts of over $13.5 billion worldwide. With Universal’s feature The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle set to begin production later this month in England, we have reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety of some names set to join the film.
It is reported that Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, and Ralph Fiennes will join the lead Robert Downey Jr. who is playing the physician with the ability to talk to animals. They are reported to have signed on for voice-starring roles in the film. Also joining the cast in a live action role is Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen, who is still in talks to join the film.
This film based on the 1920’s children’s book written by Hugh Lofting will be written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, who wrote Traffic and Syriana. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will work on the film as producers via their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, along with Susan Downey for Team Downey.
Currently, Holland is set to voice the Blue Sky feature Spies in Disguise and his highly anticipated role in Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War as he returns as Spider-Man.
With Downey Jr. set to star in this film, there is no doubt that this will be quite different from Eddie Murphy’s Doctor Dolittle. Overall it looks like a solid cast, we’ll see as trailers and image are released.
Universal’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be released in theaters April 12, 2019.
The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War dropped this morning, unveiling a superhero-stuffed look at what Disney calls “An unprecedented cinematic journey 10 years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Check it out below (and be sure to stick around for the very end).
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Infinity War is billed as the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. In the story, the Avengers and their superhero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos (Josh Brolin) before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
Thanos isn’t your everyday intergalactic despot. Emerging from the cosmic shadows, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment — the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
“Evacuate the city. Engage all defenses. And get this man a shield!”
This will be the 19th film in the MCU (Black Panther opens in February) and the third in the Avengers ensemble pics after Marvel’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age Of Ultron which grossed $1.5B and $1.4B worldwide, respectively. Kevin Feige produces Infinity War which begins international rollout on April 25, 2018 before hitting domestic cinemas on May 4.
On a sweltering October weekend, the largest-ever group of Marvel superheroes and friends gathered just outside of Atlanta for a top-secret assignment. Eighty-three of the famous faces who have brought Marvel’s comic-book characters to life over the past decade mixed and mingled—Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk, bonded with Vin Diesel, the voice of Groot, the monosyllabic sapling from Guardians of the Galaxy. Angela Bassett, mother to Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, flew through hurricane-like conditions to report for duty alongside Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brie Larson, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Laurence Fishburne, and Stan Lee, the celebrated comic-book writer and co-creator of Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.
One week before the Marvel 10th-anniversary photo shoot, on the set of Avengers 4, I watched Marvel’s biggest stars lounge on comfy couches under a canopy in the long stretches between takes. Mark Ruffalo scratched Scarlett Johansson’s back, while Johansson, Chris Evans, and several other Avengers hunched over their phones in a competitive game of Words with Friends. I reached for a camera to record the moment—some of the most famous faces in the world lit up by phone screens just like the rest of us—but the ever vigilant Marvel security team had wrapped my phone in layers of protective tape. Later, Chris Hemsworth mentioned that very moment to me.
“I thought, Could somebody take a photo of this? We’re all aware that this is going to be the last time we get to hang out like this.”
And yet the actors who have contributed so much to Marvel’s past successes have little doubt about the studio’s future. “I feel a lot of joy for the next generation,” Johansson said. “It’s a bittersweet feeling, but a positive one.”
In true Marvel fashion, members of the original Avengers team will help pave the way for the new guard. The latest Captain America introduced fans to Boseman’s Black Panther while Downey’s Tony Stark mentored Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming—“serving at the pleasure of young Master Holland,” Downey said with characteristic flair. Spider-Man’s return to the Marvel fold is a coup for Feige, who helped orchestrate a hero-sharing arrangement with Sony. [cont] Cover & Photo in the Gallery!
