Tom joins Robert Downey Jr. On Doctor Dolittle Film

With Universal’s feature The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle set to begin production later this month in England, we have reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety of some names set to join the film.

It is reported that Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, and Ralph Fiennes will join the lead Robert Downey Jr. who is playing the physician with the ability to talk to animals. They are reported to have signed on for voice-starring roles in the film. Also joining the cast in a live action role is Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen, who is still in talks to join the film.

This film based on the 1920’s children’s book written by Hugh Lofting will be written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, who wrote Traffic and Syriana. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will work on the film as producers via their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, along with Susan Downey for Team Downey.

Currently, Holland is set to voice the Blue Sky feature Spies in Disguise and his highly anticipated role in Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War as he returns as Spider-Man.

With Downey Jr. set to star in this film, there is no doubt that this will be quite different from Eddie Murphy’s Doctor Dolittle. Overall it looks like a solid cast, we’ll see as trailers and image are released.

Universal’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be released in theaters April 12, 2019.
